In this section we are going to learn 2 lip finish application methods. (1) Shape and fill using lip liner and lipstick. (2) Shape and fill lips with a lip liner and non-transfer lip color that will last all night long. Both techniques are wrapped up with a high gloss finish.

(1) Outlining of the lips with a lip liner prevents color bleeding.

(2) When you have finished your lipstick application put your index finger in your mouth and pull out through your lips. This stops lipstick from getting onto your teeth.

(3) Lip Gloss can be used on it's own, without lipstick. They are also available in tints.

(4) If you find it hard to draw lip lines accurately with a liner start by marking edge dots with the liner around the lips and then join the dots together.

(5) To remove Non-transfer lip color use an oil based makeup remover or facial cleansing wipes (Johnson's 3in1, etc)

(6) Want fuller lips? Use a lip plumper on its own. Available in clear or tinted. Do try a reaction test on the back of your hand first.

(7) For luscious lips in photo work use lipstick as opposed to lip color which can dry up under studio lights.

In this, the last of the face makeup guides, we'll be applying the finishing touch that will bring your face alive and harmonize your 'look' by applying lipstick, the proper way :). Your choice of lip color can completely transform your look as can the skill with which it is applied. Again, its a matter of practice until you find it easy to follow the lines of your lips.

We'll be looking at 2 lip cover methods; (a) the traditional way using lip liner and lipstick and (b) non-transfer using a long lasting lip color, that will remain in place the whole night though plus liner and lip gloss.

A word of warning: There is a 3rd type of lip color, which is lip stain. Its use is not described below. This type of lip color can last for up to 3 days without an easy way of removal.
Minimum: Lip Liner, Lipstick, Lip Gloss
Preferred: as above plus translucent powder (for matt finish only)

Creme stick &
Pencil Lip Liner
Lipstick
lip Gloss
Long Wear Lip
color/gloss
Minimum: Lip brush (if using Lipstick method), Dusting brush (if matt look required), 3in1 Cleansing wipes and cotton buds (to remove accidental over-paint)

The 2 Guides shown below show one possible lip shape. This shape simply follows the actual lip line. There are endless shape possibilities that can be used, even outside of your natural lip line to give a completely different look.

Traditional Lipstick Application

(1) Apply a small amount of moisturizer (i.e. MAC lip conditioner) to your lips. Allow your lips a few moments to absorb the moisturizer.
(2) Using a lip liner (pencil or creme stick), outline the actual edge of your lips. The liner should be one shade darker than your lipstick. If you need a fuller look because your lips are thin, line just outside the natural edge of your lips.   (3) Load some lipstick onto a lip brush and apply to the lips from the outside inwards, meeting in the middle to a relaxed slightly open mouth. If you run over the edge, draw a cotton bud lightly over the excess area into the lips to remove the liner. You could just use the lipstick without a brush but this gives less control and accuracy.
(4) Close your mouth around a tissue to blot the lipstick. Then apply lipstick once more and lightly blot again. This gives a consistent color across your lips.
(5) If you want a matt look, lightly dust the lips with translucent powder using a powder brush.

If you want glossy or shiny lips apply lip gloss to the lips from the outside moving inwards and almost to the edge of the lip liner. Don't go over the liner edge as color could wick outwards.
Non-Transfer Lip color
(1)
Non-transfer lip colors can be very drying, so moisturize your lips well and allow to be absorbed for a few minutes before proceeding. Remove any excess by blotting with a tissue.
(2) Using the lip color wand (supplied with the color) paint lips almost to the natural edge of your lips. Let the color dry and reapply for an even color. Let it dry again. Above just shows the left side colored.   (3) The lip color won't bleed but to enhance the flat look of the color apply a lip liner that is one shade darker to the natural edge of your lips or just outside of that line if you want a fuller lip look.
(4) Your lips will now look solid but a little flat. Use a lip gloss of your choice for a sheen, gloss or sparkle look. Apply the gloss to the lips from the outside moving inwards and almost to the edge of the lip liner

Your face makeup is complete!

Now onto nails ?
